5 startups that are still hiring!
Many companies are laying people off. These startups are doing the opposite!
Before I get into this email, I want to say THANK YOU!
I send this newsletter out at least two times a week and the response so far has been amazing.
A few people said, they love forwarding these to friends that were laid off, furloughed or are interested in changing jobs.
As one person said “everybody knows somebody who is on the prowl for a good job.”
That said, if the above statement made you think of anyone, please forward this, I will love you forever 😘
If you can’t think of anyone but still just want my eternal love, you can click the button below to tweet about the newsletter as well 😁
Here we go….
The amount of layoffs happening because of the coronavirus is at an uncomfortable level.
The last two weeks have been historic and not in a good way.

Many economist are predicting worst times to come and potentially unemployment numbers that could resemble the Great Depression
With all of that said, I think it’s important to continue to try to be a beacon of light!
Dave Ramsey did that beautifully last week when he compiled this list of companies that are hiring.
In an effort to do my best Dave Ramsey impression, I am going to do the same thing for startups.
So far with this newsletter we have featured a total of seven startups (the eighth is coming on Sunday).
After sending out my last newsletter my girlfriend asked me, “are you sure they’re still hiring?”
I had to think about it.
Their website said they were hiring but corona has hit so fast who knew if that was still accurate.
When I thought about it, who knew if that was still accurate for any of the companies that I had featured in the past.
So with that in mind, I decided it was time to speak with them directly.
Below are the highlights:
The following companies are still hiring: Calendly, Webflow, Deel, Superhuman and Gorgias
The following companies did not respond to my multiple inquiries about if they were still hiring: Workboard, Pipe and Kapwing
This doesn’t mean these companies aren’t still hiring but it doesn’t look good (especially based off of how many emails I sent 😂).
Here are a few additional notes:
Webflow although still hiring stated “we have slowed hiring until we know how the market conditions will impact us”.
If I had to guess, I don’t think they will be impacted too badly.
Webflow makes a product that is neither helped nor hurt by the coronavirus.
Businesses closing will hurt them so revenue growth may slow but they recently raised $70M so as long as they are smart with their money they should be fine.
Calendly was my most recent feature and the company that took me down this rabbit hole.
Their response was the most positive “we are still hiring full steam ahead and will be opening a lot more roles over the next two weeks as we head into Q2 .. 47 headcount total”
I assume it has a lot to do with everything I stated in their recent feature!
Kapwing didn’t respond at all despite me reaching out many times.
This is the company I would be most worried about applying to out of all of the companies on the list.
As much as I personally love Kapwing (I use their product for my video editing), I am not 100% sure about how well they will do through a lot of economic turmoil.
Few things that have going for them:
They just raised $11M in September of 2019 so I would assume they have money in the bank. They only have 16 employees so their burn rate shouldn’t be too high
Their founders seem like hustlers.
I see them leading the way on their social platforms every day.
There are no signs of giving up from the company!
They do a great job with social media. Staying on top of trends that are happening in real time. None of their culture hacks have led to significant following growth at this point but I imagine they will at some point.
Pipe also did not respond despite a lot of outreach.
I will give Pipe a pass.
When I wrote about Pipe, they only had one job opportunity open and they just raised their seed round funding.
If I had to guess, Pipe is just beginning to make money and they are playing the current markets day by day.
Workboard did not respond but I would not worry about them at all!
They were a paid post so you unless you’re on that tier you won’t be able to see all of the reason’s I love them but one thing I will say is they are built for this environment….
#Tech for remote teams in the enterprise: - Meetings: @zoom_us / @MicrosoftTeams - Strategy + Results Mgmt: @WorkboardInc - Collaboration: @Office365 / @gsuite - CRM: @salesforce / @MSFTDynamics365 What other #SaaS tools would you recommend? If your only digital business capability is zoom meetings, you aren’t going to fare well in Q2. Not enough hours in the day to quarterback a team much less a company with meetings alone. If you don’t have a power OKR platform+process, go now. @WorkboardInc can help.Deidre Paknad @day_dreeBy the way @day_dree is the CEO of Workboard. She’s a beast from everything I know about her.
Trust me, they’re worth applying to.
Ok, thats it for now.
One reminder before you go
If you know anyone that was laid off, furloughed or is looking for a new job, please forward this to them!
That said, as always if you don’t know anyone you can…
Have a great night AND as alway, stay safe, wash your hands and stay 6ft away from EVERYBODY!
